Richard "Dimples" Fields
was an American R&B and soul singer, popular during the 1980s. He began recording for his own DRK label, before signing to Boardwalk Records in 1981. His first minor hit was a cover of The Penguins' "Earth Angel" that year. His first album for Boardwalk also featured the track "She's Got Papers On Me", the lament of a married man wanting his mistress, which was interrupted by his wife, played by Betty Wright, setting out her view of the situation.

Richard Dimples Fields Topped the R&B Charts
Source:
vh1.com
Eighties soft-toned vocalist Richard "Dimples" Fields topped the R&B charts with the world weary-toned mid-tempo groover "If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another" with its everyman spoken section. Fields is also known for "She's Got Papers on Me," a radio-aired track from his Dimples LP (issued as a promotion-only single), which featured a harpy-ish monologue by Betty Wright. Owner of the Cold Duck Lounge in San Francisco, CA, Fields began putting out his own albums in the late '70s. Garnering attention and sales in the Bay Area, he was signed to Neil Bogart's Boardwalk Records. His first charting single was a cover of the Penguins' million-selling 1954 hit "Earth Angel," which peaked at number 81 R&B in summer 1981.

Richard Dimples Fields Biography
Source:
SoulTracks.com
Dimples was the owner of a San Francisco nightclub for years and was a popular regional act when he was signed by former Casablanca Records Neil Bogart for his fledgling Boardwalk Records label. Dimples was already 36 years old by the time he was signed, and he created a sound definitely aimed at a more adult crowd. Neither a great singer nor musician, Dimples appeared to breeze through his material purely on personality. His light, wispy voice was perfect for the musically lightweight songs he released about his views on life and love (mostly illicit).
